Kirschner Wire

Kirschner wire fixation technique

First, the fracture can be fixed at the anatomic position with a Kirschner's wire according to your method.Then, holes were drilled at the proximal and distal ends 0.5-1 cm from the fracture line perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the phalanges, passing through the bilateral cortices. The two 1.5mm diameter Kirschner wires should be in a plane parallel to the longitudinal axis of the phalanges.Finally, take out the two Kirchner wires, insert the injection needle as a catheter at the needle path, pass the 1mm steel wire through and tighten the pressure , which is equivalent to the tension band steel wire, such fixation is very firm, and can be trained early after surgery, so as to facilitate functional recovery. This method can also be used for phalangeal fusion.
